The Ostrobothnians (Finnish: Pohjalaisia) is a three-act opera by Leevi Madetoja composed during the years 1920-1923. It premiered October 25, 1924. It was also performed in Stockholm in 1927 and in Copenhagen in 1938. Later he adapted some of the music into an orchestral suite.
The opera was based on the play of the same name, written by Artturi Järviluoma, which was also filmed under the title Kankaankylässä. It was revived at the Finnish National Opera in the 1956–1957 season[1] and also in 2010.[2]
